Wax printing is wax resist printingand ancient Chinese name is Valerian.
It’s a historic printing and dyeing technology and still very popular in a few part of the minority areas in China Yunnan and Guizhou province.
The wax printing process is laying white cotton fabric to particular plate and using special wax knife to dip the melted wax to outline the pattern.
Put the fabric into vat for exhaust dyeing for several times and no-wax part will color up then boil off the fabric to remove the waxed part and then after drying, the white outline pattern will showon the blue ground.
These generate special styles with fine and irregular pattern due to wax film rupture by external force.This hand-made wax printing could only dye single white pattern on blue or red ground.

Mechanical printing was diffused to China since 1996 and the color shade has changed from hand-made single color to mechanical multi-colors.
Different patterns andtechniques coulddesign various wax patterns, it leaves 0.5-1cm widthmargins on the fabric edge and two sides have no color difference.
